A Guide to Contracting

UK employers are becoming increasingly reliant on flexible labour solutions and today the contract workforce is an essential part of the UK working community, especially within finance.   • The great thing about contracting today is that the Government supports temporary staff; new legislation has been passed to offer temporary staff employment rights through The Working Time Directive and statutory law. You can expect holiday pay entitlement, and legislation is being discussed to allow temporary staff access to many of the same working rights as permanent company employees.
  • As well as the earning potential associated with contracting, contractors have the freedom and flexibility of choosing where they want to work and for how long. Contractors are normally able to develop their skill set quickly as they become familiar with the different environments that they become exposed to.
  • Contracting can also lead to new challenges, as no two assignments are ever the same. However, you may be concerned about forfeiting a permanent position for a contract assignment. If this is the case, you will be reassured to find that most contractors move from one contract assignment to another with consummate ease.
